In what ways does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms of conventions of real media products?
we have created a film based on true events which we made up, including the missing case, witnesses, police reports and people involved. We have even applied made up characters to play the roles, but as it is just a opening the examiners are looking at, we dont see those people. The promotional site backs this up. Looking at openings of films, ive used the normal conventions of titles, production companies, film festivals and casting. This is all done in the normal film lineup at the opening. Our media insitutes such as ´lcl´and ´psycho pix´were created by us for authenticity. We do however show the film festival at the opening to show how this film has been promoted via this institute. this was done to challenge the normal conventions of films as they don't tend to do this. In openings you don't tend to show so much of a story, and we actually show many of the masked men, and so it goes against the normal conventions would be showing titles and subtle images or begins which lead onto the main storyline. However we show fully the missing case, and we start off with what the film will be about. This was mainly due to the fact our opening had to be around 2 minuets long.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our film would represent many types of social groups including single mothers, recovering drug addicts, victims of domestic violence and people who can relate to sarah´s home situation, with the possibility of representing teens with possible mental health issues, as this later develops for Sarah in the story. This will also in effect represent the actual people who were involved in the events.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
A independent film institute would distribute our film as it dosnt fit with the blockbuster conventions (for example big Hollywood stars and big budgets). We have managed to create our own production institutes and film companies to support our film and relate to normal film conventions.
Who would be the audience of your film?
In terms of age restrictions, it would be a 15, as it could be too emotionally deep for under 15s (being that of a psychological thriller) and quite scary, with violence. However it´s not a cert 18 but it will attract people of this age and above. It dosnt contain extreme gore and shocking moments, but a gradual approach to horror, unlike American style horrors. As it is a thriller/ horror, the auidience would be people who enjoy those type of films and genres, and movies such as psycho and donnie darko, which we have looked at. Also because it´s suppose to be based on true events, the media frenzy among the events would attract a auidence to see what actualy happened, and anyone who was actualy involved or knew the person would want to watch it, to see if it´s accurate, which either could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the films accuracy, but as we have made this up, that wouldnt be a problem.
How would you attract/ address your audience?
We have chosen many ways in order to attract our diffrent target audences. we aim to target the yourger audence through viral cambaines, adverts on sites such as facebook , twiter via showing trailers. We pridect that this way of advertising and attacting the audence will be a great success as we have noticed that Parnormel activity films have also done the same and have magnatized a big audence. Also we have created a promotional website this will attract the younger audence as they are activily involved with technology and the internet. another way in which we would bring a bigger audence would be to realise the movie during holidays as they would be more likely to be coming at that time. To attract the older audence for our movie we have decided to advertise on televsion and in cimema as the older audence are seen to be more diffcult to attract as they have a busy schedul, we would have free screenings on hallooween and then aim to screen at film festivals, which at the opening you can see it says ´shadowland film festival´, which we created as a means of showing people this film is popular.i have got an idea for a poster to attract the audence. What have you learnt from the technologies of constructing your product?
i and the group have learnt and used technology in the way we had never used before through this we have had the chance learn and explore what the technolagy can do. we firstly learnt how to used advanced cameras that can help change lighting from what it is naturaly than we got to learnt about i movie where a recorded clip from the camera be tranfred to there, so we are than able to edit the clip. here were able to change colour, cut attach and detach sound clips, apply transitions and re-order the clips to bring a beter understanding and show a clear message acroos to the audence, change clip duration to make a gesture effective and meaningful. eg slow motion. All this helped us to be inventive and make the movie look profesional as it was our first time making a film. imovie was also able to attach and detach origanal sound recorded so we could cut unwanted sound from the clip or even place desired sound to diffrent sections of the movie to make a consistent atmosepheric sound we needed.we found many sites that we could use the music from to be able to add to our movie and we got ours from FREE PLAY site which we found the right kind of sound that we wanted for this genre. After all this procces we were than introduced to anathor piece of technolgy that we got fimmiler to was garageband this was the place we could attach sound and tracks from garageband to thepicture edit from imovieand bring them together. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it till the full product?
In the preliminary task we were given a chance to learn and to test out what we had been tought in the media lession's, this task gave me a chance to learn and gain confidence to use a camera as i was the camra person and, director. the task was a push and a small demonstration to me of what we was to do in the main project although i was'nt the director for this project but had the understanding off what shot was right for a purticuler scene . The shots we had chosen to use in the task were quite varied and this helped us to establish which one's were most effective nad which were not for example using close up can help build tension, high angle and low angle shots help show the characters control. overall i think via the preliminary task i have learnt alot and we as a group have enhanced the knowledge learnt through task and applied it to the project.
