Audience Expectations of Psychological Thrillers For the audience expectations, I had filmed the video in two different ways as I wanted to see the experiment with the way that it looks and challenge the conventions of an 'traditional' interview 'style'. I also felt that by doing that I wanted to make the video have a 'homey' type feel to it. Rather than an stick to the traditional interview type look.LATASHA >What kind of masks can relate to my work?
the mask has to be creepy more then gory and deformed.

Scream- black a white mask with a black hood. The eyes are drooping and the mouth is wide open, it's screaming, hence the film title and hence it is a thriller/ horror. The fact he plays psychological games on his victims is also another reason to why i can link this to my film.

Halloween (michael Myers)- Very simple mask of a deformed pale face, with brown hair slicked back and eyebrows. It has cut out eyes, so the killer can look into his victims eyes, without taking off his mask. He also has moulded lips and ears and a nose, he's hiding his identity and pretending to be something he's not. His vacant expression, like many other masks in horror films can suggest his lack of emotion for his victims and that there is something sinister about him. Anyone who has seen the films can recognise this mask straight away, because it plays a vital role in creating fear for not only his victims, but also the audience.

Saw- (the puppet) - Although this isn't a mask, i can still link this to my film idea, because they are both psychological thrillers, but saw does take it to a much more gory level. In every aspect of what a villain should look like, the villain in this film is a normal man, but he uses this puppet to confront his victims. It's so simple;  a puppet on a tricycle. It has its target on each cheek, a tricycle, red eyes, hair, and a moving mouth.

Saw -(pig mask) using animal masks can tell us how they're no longer human (the villains) or that they lack any real human emotion, hence the tourturing of their victims. The people behind the pig masks have no identity in the real world, they no longer exist, and so they take the pig form. This also stems back from the Chinese year of the pig, in one film he uses a much simpler pig mask to capture his villan. He then goes on to develop the mask. However the pig has hair, so it could be suggested that the people behind the mask do have human emotions.

Jason x (Hockey mask)- The typical hockey mask, white with cut out eyes, and the holes drilled through. This is the most simple mask, but the most effective, i believe. It's fully white, and the eyes are cut out, but we don't see his eyes, because they are darkened out, suggesting he has a empty soul. I'm just suggesting things that i can gather from points i pick up, simply referring to meaning i draw from it. I'm going to take the idea of using a plain white mask, not a hockey mask, but a normal full white one with cut out eyes.

It (clowns)- the use of make-up has been considered, but we agreed masks are easier to use, less time consuming. Also with achieving the right look, make-up may even ruin it, so i believe keeping it simple with the white masks will be most effective. In this film as they chose clowns, which many people fear. This film challenges that exact reason, because they fear it. It sticks to the classic look of a clown, with a edge, it's claws. Whoever has a fear of clowns, or masks for that matter, will relate that fear to the film. This film is a horror, and so it sticks in the heads of the audience, perhaps creating fear inside them, that they didn't have before. The main character in my own film fears masks, and so i have to project that fear in the shots i use, and the expressions she has.

Silence of the lambs (Hannibal Lecture)- His half mask, is covering his mouth. The reason for this is because he eats his victims. As he is in his cell, the people containing him have put him in a straight jacket with a mask over his mouth. This is fearful as no one can trust him without it. They know what he is, a cannibal, and when we see him with the mask, it does not only unnerve us, but it also reassures us he can't do harm. It's a recognisable mask for that matter too, as it plays a vital role in his development throughout the film (his need to kill and feast). The fact we can see his eyes is a bonus (we see his need to kill anyone near him).

Slipknot- although this isn't a film, but a band, they are well known for using masks during their music videos, photo shoots and live performances. It links to the metal music, and the messages they try to put across. Much of their music is dark, but i believe their masks are brilliant. I added this in, as i spoke mostly about the effectiveness of the masks, they're warning the listeners, being different, revealing second personalities (as most horror film villains do) and scaring off the people.

What masks i will be using...

From what i have looked at, i have concluded the simpler the mask the more effective, and you will remember it. Also taking away the use of make-up, id rather the mask be white, so it will contrast well with the black outfit and the black hoods. However i am considering using a little bit of black make-up to have around the eyes of the masked people in my film. I want it to have a creepy unnerving look, and so i believe without having facial elements such as facial hair, scares ect, will have a better effect on the audience. By using hoods, i wont see the actors hair, and so we cant determining  fully, even thought they have human elements, that they really are humans. I want them to be completely identical as well, so by having many of them all looking the same will be quite unsettling. The image is exactly what i want them to look like. -LOREN

SCENE ANALYSIS
This scene works very well for this type or film, which i would say is a political thriller. The fact this scene is representing the whole nation against the government shows this. The dramatic music does prove it's effectiveness, as the group move into view of the camera. With a long shot, which i also plan to use, it shows all of them moving slowly towards the camera, which would be the view of the soldiers. It then goes on to show the many reactions of the people against the masked men, and then back to the men walking again, this time slightly blurred. A birds eye view/ low angle shot is very effective at one point, as it shows the hundreds of masked men almost face to face with the soldiers, and the music becomes a recognised instrumental (used in many other films) cutting from shot to shot, of the masked men walking through the street, it then goes onto a shot which is my favourite one, where its a very high birds eye view of the town square, with the figures moving slowly across. This is effective because there are so many of them, they become a shadow. Through the scene we are cut to two events, one of the death of the main character, his body being transported onto a train, suggesting something is big is about to happen, and with the climax comes the many shots of the masked men as they stand to witness a event. The idea of them wearing black, with the contrast of the white mask is very effective and i will do the same in my film, except my masks will be plain, and instead of hats they will have hoodies, but i do like the idea of capes. - LOREN

psycho is a psychological thriler movie

this movie was realised  in the 1960's directed  by alferd hetchcock and writen by joesph stefano. the movie was played by anthony perkiens, janet leigh and vere miles. the flim psycho is very succesful movie made a great blockbuster and still talked about although this movie is appealing to everyone but the target audence for this movie would be the young adult probably from the age of 15+ the movie is mainly amied at this age and above because of the genre, as its a pschlogical thriller. also the casting that is been used in the movie like anthony perkiens, janet leigh and vere miles. they also set a target audence as they will  be attracting young women and men as these actors like anthony perkiens was adored by women in the 1960's This movie starts of with a very slow claim piano tune wil its show variouse differnet shots of the house from the profile shot of the wall hangings, to the wide shot of the bedroom.than anthony perkins is showen when the volume of the music decreases and than gardualy the voice over of anthony perkins this is heard and caried on throughout the whole opening. while he performed his daily routines from the morning while he explains what and why they are done. during this time veriouse of shot have be used and the mos interesting on was, when his reflection of his face is shown in paintin hanging while he is in the toilet.this shot is helpful for the audence to understand  character as this help to show that film is not as simple as it may seem. The character is understood that thier is something diffrent about him this is even showen through the voiceover when he speaks out about his daily rutain and as a man takeing so much care of himself and using so much products it isnt quit normel.this is shown piticularly in the last shot when Anthony Perkins speaks saying that he may seem as normel to anyone but he just is'nt, the way he looks to be. while he is taking his mask this shows he is reavleing himself verbaly via the voiceover and his action of removing his face mask and showin who he is.

Sound...
This is the sound our film relates to most, as it's quite alike, however this is much spookier then our music. We had to use the free play music website in ordr to avoid copy right, but if we were to use music that wasnt copyright, then the 'halloween' soundtrack in the intro would be ideal. When people have watched the opening of the film, the first thing they say is that the music is very simular to halloween, but   with sublte tones, and less spooky. with the music given on the website, the sound we picked was perfect for our opening, as it creates tension just like the halloween sounds and is consistant throughout. We had to ensure that atmospheric sound could also be heard, and so we had to pick a song that wasnt so dominating of the opening and that the picture edit would also be dramatic. The halloween intro only has images of pumpkins with the red writing fading in, and so the picture edit wasnt very creative at all, which allows the music to dominate. Using garage band we could bring the music to a point, either increasing or decreasing the sound at certain points, whilst adjusting the asmospheric sound which includes park sounds (birds,
children, cars by the road).  LOREN

I chose to analyse the poster of American Psycho as I have already analysed the first 9 frames of the films opening. the fact that Patrick Bateman, The main character played by Christian Bale is a high-street banker whose bloodlust leads him so serial killing. LATASHA
SOUND ANALYSIS I looked at the sound used in the opening sequence of Donnie Darko, i found it very interesting as it looking at the sound which has some aspect that we have try to included to our opening. it mainly starts of with slow and interesting sound making people want to watch the movie, it was quite creepy as well it also gives away the genre keeping the audiences interested.after the music is played for about 40 seconds the music stops playing since than, atmospheric sound of the wind, birds and of an open air comes which i found it very simple and effective this is due to the fact it gives a sense of realistic events are taking place, as our opening in based on true events we have been inspired to use the atmospheric sound from the orginal filming day as the sound of bird and childern and the wind got recorded, which we kept it in the sequence throug out although we have added some music which is inspired by the Halloween film.
